Rene And Georgette Magritte With Their Dog After The War – Paul Simon

Luke Devaney and I arranged a version of this beautiful Paul Simon tune for an online event called ‘Not A Theme Night’, which was put together by Kieran Quinn in early 2021.

That’s me on bass and vocals, Luke on guitar and vocals, and Kieran on piano.

I used a fretless bass for the performance, and the above video is a zoomed-in shot of just me and the bass. The part is straightforward enough, but what made it especially challenging was playing and singing at the same time. I find singing while playing bass more difficult than singing while playing guitar, and the lack of frets means that left-hand accuracy is extra important.
